Definitely going to tag this post with “slacker.” I’ll chalk some of the delay up to coming home from Florida, plus getting settled back in, plus getting slammed with work, plus being generally unmotivated as the cold weather has sucked ass for training. Quick recap on the previous weeks, and then some more stuff.

Like I touched on up top, getting into a training groove back in Philly has been tough. It certainly hasn’t been due to the distractions of my friends – they’re almost all rowers, and are also in the middle of their “grinding” season – its just been the cold. After thinking that below 65* was cold, I’ve had to re-acclimate myself with riding my bike with weather temperatures that feel like they are below freezing. Woof. I’m also trying to lock down a good pool to swim at, that isn’t a. crowded, b. only a few lanes, c. open at all hours d. not too far away, and e. has fast swimmers training there. I’ve yet to find a place that meets all of those requirements, but for the moment I’m swimming at Drexel, which has a 6 lane pool and is almost always empty. I’ve a couple new people to train with, and one of my teammates is moving to Philly later in the year. Smartly, he’s not leaving Florida until it warms up here. On Monday (the 25th), a full 3 days after spring started, it snowed here in Philly.
Its getting better though (hopefully). It’s good to be back home, living with my friends, hanging out on the couch, and sleeping in my own bed. I’ve managed to stop by Breakaway Bikes to say hi to Max and Richie, and I’m back helping the Roman Catholic crew team a couple of days a week. Last Friday I was invited to speak at on a career day panel at a local high school – it was pretty cool imparting all of my wisdom on the students, and the other panelists were very interesting and offered some very unique views on the questions that we were asked. On Sunday (the 24th) I went into NYC to catch a Rangers game. I forgot how great of a place Madison Square Garden is – absolutely beautiful. The Rangers lost in extra rounds of the shootout, but it was a pretty entertaining game, and I’m hoping to catch one more this season.
My next race is about 5 weeks away, which feels like an eternity. Fortunately, I’ve got a trip to Austin next weekend for a bachelor party for my cousin, and I hope that the weather will actually start to warm up in the next two weeks. I should have my Blueseventy Helix just in time for Bassman, and I’m hoping my Wattie kit is getting mailed out soon. With so many teammates racing at Oceanside this weekend, I’m sure they are doing everything in their power to get the kits ready for that race. In the meantime, I’ll just keep grinding out my training and hoping that my days on the trainer are coming to a close.
